Correct Me If I'm Wrong

RE: Correct Me If I'm Wrong
Redundancy, in general terms, refers to the quality or state of being redundant, that is: exceeding what is necessary or normal; or duplication. This can have a negative connotation, especially in rhetoric: superfluous or repetitive; or a positive implication, especially in engineering: serving as a duplicate for preventing failure of an entire system
4WD vs. AWD, [/b]The term four-wheel drive describes truck-like vehicles that require the driver to manually switch between two-wheel drive mode for streets and four-wheel drive mode for low traction conditions such as ice, mud, snow, slippery surfaces, or loose gravel. All-wheel drive (AWD) is often used to describe a "full time" 4WD that may be used on dry pavement without destroying the drivetrain (It should be noted that "Full-Time" 4WD can be disengaged and the center differential can be locked, essentially turning it into regular 4WD. On the other hand, AWD cannot be disengaged and the center differential cannot be locked.)

RE: Correct Me If I'm Wrong
obviously you didnt read my last post. lemme break it down for you
Quattro -> audi's name for their very good AWD system
----> redundant
AWD -> full time 4WD with 3 defferentials (front, back, middle)
----> not the same (not redundant
4WD -> has 2 defferentials (front and back) and is switch back
and forth from 4WD to 2WD

RE: Correct Me If I'm Wrong
ok allow me to dumb it down further... try to follow along...
Quattro - Audi's trademarked name for it's AWD system.
It's a product name for it's all wheel drive system - nothing more, nothing less.
like... still following along, mate?
Silverado - Chevy's name for it's 1500 series truck
Sierra - GMC's name for similar truck
saying Quattro AWD is not redundant - same as Silverado Pickup is not...

RE: Correct Me If I'm Wrong
for the average use maybe silverado pickup isnt redundant but since we're breaking it down into such detail it is redundant
silverado = pickup (therefor it is not necessary to say silverado pickup unless the person you are talkingto doesnt know that a silverado is a pickup)
civic = car (therefor it is not necessary to say civic car unless the person you are talking to doesnt know that a civic is a car)
Quattro = AWD system (therefor it is not necessary to say Quattro AWD unless the person you are talking to doesnt know that Quattro is an AWD system (which would be unlikely on an Audi Forum))
saying the same thing over again when it is not necessary = Redundant
