no it was a problem with the xp install software not having drivers for the sata hard drive. I should have known this when it asked in the begining of loading the drivers after booting if i needed to load sata/raid drivers or not. Der.

hmm. is it Windows XP Home? cause the last time i installed xp on a sata pc it worked fine without having to press that key to install support for raid, and i believe the other option is SCSI not sata.. unless your xp is different..

Yeah, it's home. Pro comes with sata drivers.

I had to set the sata adapter config in the bios to something other than sata for it to recognize it. I'll have to get the drivers and go back and switch it back in the bios after windows is installed.
