isnt the PhysX card only really utilized in a few games?

ive been out of the loop for a while, and im in desperate need of a new setup, so i could wrong.

 

I think alot of it has to to with what you're "aiming for"


You did the right thing by stating your specs 1st off (so nice job)


1st How big is your Monitor? What resolution do you play at?
2nd Are you running DUAL SCREENS? I am sure you aware SLI will not with with two Monitors

3rd What games are you playing?
4th Are you looking to overclock? (the videocard)
5th How are ambient temps in your place? GOing SLI might require WATERCOOLING in some cases

6th How big is your power supply? aka How many watts?

7th what motherboard are you running? and Have you done your RESEARCH....sometimes it's not as easy as just "pluggin in" a second card. You will/MIGHT run into issues.

8th PYsx not need since MOST NEW CARDS have them BUILT IN ALREADY so that card would be a waste of $$$$$$$$$$

9th What OS you RUN?

10th Have you considered just getting a 9800 GX2?

8: most ATi cards dont have physx thats why i was going to get it cause i was going to switch to ati

my 8800 does a very good job but my screen can't really keep up lol. i play crysis, mass effect, far cry 2, carbon, most wanted, orange pack games on maxed high quality. i've never had a problem. i think you should just keep it for a little while longer because prices will be dropping pretty soon. one of my friend's is running a e7200 with a 8800gt and he doesn't have any trouble playing any of the games i play either. and like dj speil said, get the 9800 if you want a serious card lol.

ya i know my specs may be a bit weird but i've been saving money up for my car too lol. anyways, i'll be reformatting over Thanksgiving break and putting on linux, vista 64 bit, and xp pro. i'm also getting a mid tower case and selling my full tower because i don't have any cooling capabilities. i'll also be getting crucial 2x2gb pc 2 6400, 5 more case fans and a 6 ch fan controller. gonna be a major overhaul of my rig.

 

my computer is fine the way it is, it just needs a video upgrade. and i just went through my steam list.. i dont see anyone that i dont know on my list

 

Wow steam! I started on counter strike 1.6 years ago, then steam came out with source. Thats the last time I upgraded my computer. Overclocked Nvidia FX 5900 Ultra FTW! Then I got a 360 and lost interest in pc gaming and use my laptop for everything. My desktop makes an excellent paper weight.
