you had to get up and walk across the room to change the channel on the TV and/or adjust to volume.

phones were attached to CORDS that restricted you from moving about when you talked to someone.

My family had those well into the '00s and, in fact, still have one. Hell, I had a rotary dial phone in my room until I was 16.
