Default Car Allowances for outside sales reps??

I am working in an outside sales role here in Canada....They just introduced a car allowance of $300/month for car, and $200/month for gas (Canadian funds)....but they are taxable benefits....And I drive about 2500kms (1560 miles)...Does anyone else have a car allowance for their job? From my understanding, your allowance should include insurance, car payment on a reliable vehicle, gas, wear and tear and depreciation...I've been on the job for 4 months now and its a little discouraging...

i design custom AV systems here in NJ and the job requires travel to client's homes to plan out systems. i dont get a car allowance, but they do pay me 48 cents per mile. all i do is submit the mileage into an expense report and they pay me a separate check for that once a week. i used to be able to claim mileage plus submit gas receipts but they took that priviledge away. but all-in-all it works out pretty well, because im making 48 dollars per 100 miles. it's not usually enough to make my car payment, but the extra money is usually put towards the insurance bill and that basically gets paid in full thru expense reports. not too bad. it could be worse. =)

See I'd like to just be able to submit a mileage report....Seems like the right thing to do instead of the company not giving me enough to work for THEM.

$300 for the car and $250 in gas a month is more than fair.

I get $500 a month taxable for meals, mileage, networking events.. etc.

We used to submit mileage at 42c per mile and I would get about $500 untaxed.

They legally dont have to pay you a damn thing.

So I guess you aren't driving much then? It's true they don't have to pay you, but I doubt someone would willingly use their own vehicle for business use if there is no reimbursement...

at $0.42/km I should be getting $1050.00....so that means I am paying $550 out of my own pocket per month...
