i know i know, its an audi forum.. but this is kind of a "general car knowledge" question. what would make my car rattle when im just idleing? as soon as i give it gas, even when im in park or neutral, the rattle stops? sounds like it might be in the midsection of the car... around the cat maybe?

 

Probably a long shot, but it's probably your cat or one of your brackets in the exhaust. Probably not much help...

yea. I would assume taht its not it goes away when u hit the gas its just u cant hear it anymore. I would say something isnt that tight mayeb a lose bracket (like cary) or a loose item in ur car. I had a rattle and when i got around to look for what the cause was i found an umbrealla i forgot i had in there (it doesnt rain alot i never have to use it).

 

I'd check the heatshield on your cat.

 

When I had the same problem, it was the shield on my cat. It just gets rusty and wares out.

 

I have the same rattle in my car. It's the heat shield.

 

is this a diy problem, or do i have to take it to a muffler shop?
