I would vote against the 928 too. Heavy and both expensive and difficult to maintain. 928 owners are a fanatical special breed, but that doesn't make them any faster.

Have you checked out 968s? You don't need a turbo to go racing - especially when getting started. I've got a friend that is a PCA instructor and his 968 is fast as hell. These cost much less than a 928to keep running at the track weekend after weekend. I'm looking for a track car right now too. Probably either another 964 or maybe a 993 if the price is right. I'm only looking at NA cars too.

Some of the advice I've been given is to look out for guys that are in fire sale mode. This can happen when somebody has a baby and tells hubby that "That race car has got to go. Think of the baby!" or some such bs. On the PCA site(you have to be a member) you can find entire set-ups with cars, trailers, parts, tires, wheels, etc. Rennlist also has a good marketplace. Pelican is also full of cars for sale. I think buying from these sites/owners could be a plus because they probably take care of the cars better.

I'm trying to figure out whether to get a stock car and mod it up or get one that has already been track prepped. There are pros and cons to both routes. You know you never get your mod money back out, but you also don't know exactly how the car is built out either when trying to fine tune it.

Good luck in your search.

I was considering getting a track car not too long ago. Mostly looking at the early 90's 240sx. Tons of parts around, plenty of options formotor swaps, rwd, goodhandling, and light.

I've got a friend that isin the process of qualifyingto get his NOPI license right now in his 240 drift car. It is light as hell and cheaper to maintain than a Porsche.

Im going with 2nd gen MR2 91-95.. Pick up a good condition turbo 5 speed for $4,000 and has unlimited aftermarket support for suspension and the 3SGTE motor. also Midengine RWD...... if not this my vote is for a V8 miata. Yea local shopp has a Miata with an LS1 i believe in it. maybe LS2.

^ a monster miata definately would not be a track car....I had a '92 with the 1.6L, I used to hit track and canyonrs regularly, never had a problem, really cheap and fun car....good luck! if you go with a miata it will last FOREVER, unless you flip yours, like I did....oh well, one less thing to worry about right?

Ok, well I am looking for a car the I would race not just to drive at the track. Alright thanks everyone for the advice. Um I kno they divide you up into competetive classes but which of these cars would actually be fasted around the track?

the miata's probably the most capable just because of its size and weight...and someone told me (not sure if this is true or not) that a miata's weight distribution is somewhere very close to 50/50

stock hp isalso around 100
