Default B5 1.8t vs mazda protege speed

what would be the outcome in this race? basically I got this random guy in my city talking **** so I finally said that I'll race him in a month when the speedway has street racing going on. I do plan on getting a chip and exhaust, but if I went on him stock, I'm thinking he'll take me by a lil. thanks guys.

Definitely the chip, exhaust won't make you that much faster unless you take out the cat (turboback w/test pipe) and maybe a little luck. I don't know how fast those are. What's your upgrade budget?

I mean the Mazdaspeed Protege is a joke car. 170hp turbocharged intercooled engine. My old car (srt-4) smoked him. So now that the hp levels are the same in both cars I just figure its a weight thing that'll determine the outcome. All he has is exhaust.

A chip+turboback will be enough to dispatch him then. GL and do it legal.

I own a Mazdaspeed Protege. If the MSP is modded it will win. If you have AWD and a decent driver you should win from a dig... it all depends on your mods and the MSP mods.
I have Engine Management, 3" turbo-back exhaust, huge intercooler, dig. boost controller, etc etc. I beat most but have reached the limit of the internals. The Mazdaspeed's have the weakest bottom-ends. Without the great management I have, my engine might be blown by now.
I have pulled 1G in turn, and done 0-60 somewhere in the 5 second range according to my Apexi Rev-Speed Meter and G-sensor.

lol. the mazda speed isn't a joke car buddy...
as mentioned above... they have weak internals, but taht 170hp is dialed down huge (consider the SVT focus... NA 170hp... Mazda didn't wanna blow their father company outta the water). sure a SRT4 will take it... but that's a saving grace on steroids... it'll take ANYTHING in it's market, and your 1.8T will never keep up with one... unless your car is ross' (which will be for sale btw )
The MSP will smoke you if you're going from a stop. if it has ANY mods really... you're done.
