Audi R10 wins 12hrs of Sebring
The new TDI R10 won the 12hrs of Sebring.
The GT2 class was pretty cool too with Panoz, Ferrari and Porsche all competing tight.
I picked up a dvr box from Comcast and it was a good way to watch an endurance race. You can keep recording while you look at whatever part of the race you want. Plus - no commercials!

The R10 is a twin turbo diesel. It has 5 gears and tops out at 5000rpm, but it also has 800ft/lb of torque. No traction control, so all of that torque must be a bear to handle. I'll bet that traction control is in the works.
Only one of the R10s finished. The other one had some overheating problems. The race winner started from the pits due to the need to change out a heat exchanger and had some long pit stops to tighten/set loose tires and replace a fuel filter, but was flawless for the most part.

yea man, people were breaking suspension components, i think it was the #6 car that had to replace his bellypan cuz it broke off on lap like 200, cuz the track is so bumby... people were blowing shocks left and right, and the radiators were being knocked around so much that the acutal inturnals started to get knocked loose... it might as well have been a 4x4 race.. haha
are they running the same brake pads the whole race? cuz damn those things must be some hardcore brakepads....
Where is sebring again?
yea, the new audi is sweet, but i was rooting for the c6r to overtake the 009, or was it 007 austin martin car in the gt2 class
it was sweet, the c6r would catch up to him in the braking sections cuz its so light, and the tires were super sticky, but then the austin would pull away every time... i bet if they had like 6 more turns to make up time, he woulda taken it
a gr8 race, dont forget to miss the F1 races tonight, im tivo'ing it!

Sebring is in Florida. It is a converted bomber base. A mixed surface of mostly concrete with big seam joints causing a lot of the bumpiness. I think all of these cars run the same brake pads the whole race unless there is some kind of failure. I love the nighttime shots that show the brakes glowing solid red coming into a turn.
That Aston did have great power, but I heard the Corvette drivers talking about how they have been forced by the regs to add 120lbs of ballast. I haven't kept up enough to know what that is all about. Probably the ALMS wanting them to not win every single race. We'll see about the reliability of some of these cars when the teams tune everything more towards peak power for the sprint race coming up next.
