Well it is really quite simple.

Audi is a German car, think of other great german words you know with AU:
Aufwiedersehen- OW
Auch- OW
Aus- OW
Auslander- OW
I think that point is made.

Second German lesson, the e at the end is always pronounced a (uh)
Porsche = POR SH A
Freunde = FREUND A
Hunde = hund A
Kleine= klein A
(ok maybe i need my phonetically correct girlfriend for this one)

Finally, this is what I heard on some old person radio station (like the news and crap) this morning...
Bimmer is the car
Beamer is the motorcycle
I don't really know what the crap that is supposed to mean but apparently this is how the terminology was back in this old DJ's day (1960's) and it has been skewed so he decided today was the day to set the record straight (and now I pass his worthless ranting on to you)

I have a question for you, SilverSeven. Beamer or Bimmer?
I say neither and I bite my thumb at those who do. To say either just makes me think of irritating metrosexual squash players in 318ci convertibles or even more irritating first year lawyers who think their old banged up 735 makes them part of some elite group of connoisseurs. I might sound a bit odd, but myself and my roomate (E36 M3 owner) are the only BMW owners that I don't want to kill. Just to irritate my much loathed now-compatriots, I have been known on occasion to pronounce BMW phonetically "Buhmwuh" or pretend I'm from Texas and say "Beeeeeee Aihm Dubya".

To illustrate my point, a typical road meeting with a fellow Audi driver when I was cruising the S-Car went something like this.

Me: Sup dude? It's pouring rain and we're racing! Rock on!
Them: I know dude! Have you seen that video with Hans Stuck? Where he's racing the IMSA Audis?
Me; Yeah, dude, that rocked!
Them: Let's go again!
Whereas a meeting with the typical BMW driver whilst in the M5 elicits this conversation.....

Them: Hey is that an M5?
Me: Yeah. Says so right on the door. And the trunk.
Them: That's nice. Is it auto or 5-speed?
Me:..... ..... ..... 6-speed. All E39 M5s are 6-speed.
Them: What's "E39" mean.
Me:.....
Them: Is that like 3.9 liters or something?
Me:Tool.
See what I mean? And yes, those are actual in car conversations I've had. I have little faith in birds of the BMW feather.

My M5 is simply known Annie. S4 was named Audrey,not because of the similarity to Audi, but because the car reminded me of Audrey Hepburn, calm, stately, graceful, but still hot as hell.

yep. Ow-dee. Germans say it that way. I think it was the Brits in the 70's and 80's that confused matters pronouncing it Aw-dee. Then we all got sophisticated and changed to Ow-dee, if I remember correctly.

Since it's a acronym, I suppose you could pronounce it however you want. It's not quite like a regular name that has a specific pronounciation.

I say owdy, my girls that drove my old S4 always called it awdy.

How is it an acronym? Audi is from the latin work Audio. AKA to Listen or hear.

Most Audi owners call it Ow Dee, while non owners always call it Awww dee. So which do you think is right?

Isn't Audi something to do with auto union... No idea what the di stand for.... I heard it was an acronym. The 4 rings represent the 4 joined companines, or something... I could be way off mark though.

You're right, and wrong. Yes the 4 rings are from the 4 joined companies, but no the name Audi has nothing to do with Auto Union.
