i was doing a little research on some old audis, and i found this on wikipedia:
we had a couple threadsa LOOONG time ago about this, and i don't think we ever officially settled it

I guess listen to a german engineer talk about Audi and see how they pronounce it. What region you come from makes a difference too. Kind of like to-mato tom-ato.

it's actually a latin word (or base word) meaning to hear - like audible. It is also aLatvian word meaning "tissue".
If you look up the early history of Audi it tells you about how the name came about...
