RE: arco gasoline?
as a server in a restuarant you can understand. you pay 1/2 and the company pays 1/2 so people can use their credit cards. that is why it is always good to pay cash @ restuarants(for the servers sake)

just to clarify for you guys.....the 35 cent atm fee isn't charged per gallon, it's just a flat fee to use your card....and they're right about credit card companies charging a big percentage...i used to work in a motorcyle dealership and on bike purchases we got reemed by the credit companies...i think in some cases it's closer to 8-9 percent. i'm gonna go to that arco for a few tanks and see if i can notice any difference...if not, i'm stickin with arco...thanks for the input guys

yeah, Amex charges even more than most cc companies - hence the reason a lot of places do not take Amex.
I have been using Gas America stations (94 oct). On average 20 cents cheaper than the 93 oct at the Shell up the road

I've heard most credit cards are like 1.5-2.5%... 2.5 being amex.
You're #'s seem high... my boss was telling me about it one day.
BUT you figure, 2.5% is still nuts, considering tonnes of places operate on a 10% profit margin. 2.5% is 25% of the profit...

Basic fees for Visa/MC at our company is currently 2.27%. Amex's basic fees are 3.22%. On top of that, there are "surcharges" between 0.4% - 1.12%, which means that the actual fees range between 2.67% and 4.34%.
So the 6% figure may be a bit high, but depending on who you deal with and the number/size of your transactions, it's not impossible.
