The new defender looks like a smaller LR3 in the same way the LR3 is a smaller version of the Rangey!

I look forward to seeing it in the flesh, hopefully.

Ooooh... OK... Thought you were gonna say Ford suv's were a patch on the land rover ones! (I know they are owned by ford, but still a different entity in its own right)

I didn't mind Ford's SUV's until our 2000 Explorer slid out at 50mph on a snowy freeway, as we were cruising in a straight line with no sudden movements, spinning us 360 and putting us sideways in a 10 foot ditch[:@]

Never again I'm afraid. Which is a shame 'cos I actually like the new Explorers.

My brother-in-law had one but it blew up on the M4 (motorway in the UK). No joke. He pulled onto the hard shoulder when smoke started coming out of the bonnet and was away from it when it blew. As far as I know he never got an explanation as to cause.

Do you mean it burst into flames, or literally blew up? How exactly would it blow up? If it was sat there on the hardshoulder, what in the car would cause the engine to blow? Presumably the engine was off as he had pulled over? Nothing would be under pressure. Fluid may ignite, but can't see what would explode...

Bloody hell, Toff! Those are damn good qestions. And I'm sure if I'd put them to him at the time he'd have thumped me. Seriously, it happened over a year ago. The fire brigade came to put it out (there was talk at the time of him having to foot a bill for damage to the M4) and then it was towed to the nearest LR garage to be inspected but cause remains unknown – which he wasn’t happy about. Not surprisingly he didn’t buy a LR again. But, I guess nobody is satisfied with that answer so I’ll find out the exact gen from billowing smoke to fireworks and then maybe the collected and knowledgeable heads that frequent this forum will suceed where LR failed.
