It didn't as far as I know but GM and Chrysler are going at it again I think. Ford was all like "**** you guys, we'll go save ourselves."

They got a partial bailout from the White House yesterday - $4B for Chrysler and $9.4B for GM. Ford only asked for access to lines of credit if necessary, not a handout of cash. The one thing that I like about the deal is that GM and Chrysler have to show concrete restructuring plans by March, showing absolute viability in the future, or they have to give back the loan money at that point and crawl away to die.

It is a good bail out strategy I think. If they did go under though wouldnt other stronger companies just end up owning them? I mean wouldn't Ford just end up being owned by Mazda and similar situations for the rest?

Not in reality. The new Obama administration may "change the rules", giving them an extended time period, more money, or maybe no further bailout at all.

Ford actually used to own 1/3 of Mazda, but recently they sold 20% back to Mazda... leaving Ford with about 13%, which they plan to sell off later I think.

I love that picture.

Bailing out the US auto makers is a dumb idea. Giving them any help at all is stupid in the first place, and 13 billion isnt even going to keep em going long enough for the economy to turn around. And while people still dont want to buy their shitty cars, audi is setting their 13th record sales year in a row.

Guess how much has been spent on the war to eradicate marijuana from the face of the earth this year alone by the US government?

$49,314,566,553

Yup 49 billion. Im one of the 806,965 people arrested so far this year, one every 38 seconds.

The reason Ford isn't hurting as badly as General McMotors and Failstlyr is that they actually have a pretty solid foothold in the rest of the world. Just look at the Mondeo, one of the best selling cars in Europe.

i didnt read all the posts, but pretty much, bush is putting a band aid and giving a "loan" thats for 3 months and a ridiculous amount of money because he didnt want to be the president that the car industry declaires bankruptcy with, so he is pushing it on to obama. however, in the first place for those who dont know, filing for bankruptcy doesnt mean car industries go under, just means their contracts seize to exist, so workers benefit packages and unions and what not are somewhat cut. but, did you know, northern auto works on avg make 74 bucks an hour and southern workers on avg make 48, but they arent complaining? once people get a taste of greed they never let it go, kinda like you judge steak on the best damn steak youve ever had...
