Default 300w or 600w?

So I Have 2 10" Type-R subs and am debating on getting 2 Alpine 600w amps for each or just 1 600w amd and split 300w for each sub.

I'm not looking for teeth rattling base... I'm looking for a more crisp and accurate sound.

what do u guys think?

If you just want crisp, clear sound, sell one of the subs. Build a one-cubic-foot enclosure for the other, make sure it's airtight, and throw a couple hundred watts at it. These cars conduct bass very well - my setup only uses a single 10" sub with 160W from a 2-channel Coustic amp, and it's very tight and punchy, but can extend deep bass surprisingly loud for what it is. I'm like you - I don't need heavy bass (I listen to metal - don't care much for bass-heavy music like rap), but damn if it won't hit hard if you want it to. Believe me, one 10" sub is more than enough, and if you build the box correctly, you won't need a tremendous amount of power either.

Just build it yourself. I use 1/2" MDF for the box, and a 1 cu.ft. box requires six pieces cut into the following sizes:

12"x12" (2 pieces)
12"x13" (2 pieces)
13"x13" (2 pieces)

You can mess around with it as you need to (ie, if you want something that isn't square), just keep the interior volume around 1 cu.ft. for a typical 10" sub and you can get some pretty nice bottom end. 1 cu.ft. is 1728 cu.in. (12" times 12" times 12"). If you want to play with the shape of the box, you can manipulate the numbers, so long as they end up giving you a similar volume. And if you end up building the box, and then want boomier bass, you can add pillow stuffing inside the box. It'll slow the sound waves down inside and effectively create the illusion and output of a larger enclosure.

I only use sealed boxes for a couple reasons. One, building a bandpass or a ported box is a pain in the ***, and in the case of a ported box, unless you know how to calculate the port diameter and length, you'll screw up your sound. With bandpass boxes, the idea behind the design is to tune the box (again, through airspace, port shape and size, port placement, etc) for exceptionally loud bass at a particular narrow frequency. When your music hits that frequency, your bass will be very loud, but at other frequencies, it won't be as loud. Because of that, bandpass boxes are a great design for dB drag racing and sound-off competitions, but they might sound unbalanced when using them for just regular listening to music. Sealed boxes don't have the complexity of the others, and they maintain a more or less even bass response independent of frequency. They're easier and cheaper (and quicker) to build, and they sound nice and tight.

If you want to build your own, go to Home Depot, tell the guy you want the pieces of MDF in the sizes I listed above, get some wood screws and wood glue, and build your box. For hooking up the wires, get a terminal cup from a stereo shop (a few bucks and it will allow you to pass the wires into the box and keep it airtight at the same time).

Believe me, a box like that, with a moderately sized amp, will sound great and you won't waste the extra money on more subs and huge-output amps, which you won't really even need, given that you said you want a solid bottom end but don't care about blowing the mortar off the buildings as you drive by.

Always meet the RMS rating on the subs, nothing worse than an underpowered sub! I'm not a fan of the q-logic boxes, I'd rather get something tighter. If you make your ownmake sure to add at least 2 chambers, the more the sound rebounds will create a better, hard hitting, and chest pounding sound and tone.

It looks OK, but I think you're paying for more than you need, unless you plan to swap between square and round subs. You can find a 1 cu.ft. box for less than that one, and it'll probably sound just fine.

If you're not a DIY have a shop do your set up. 2 subs is gonna rattle your trunk and you're gonna want to take out your hazard triangle. 1 10 is fine for a Type R. I'm sure vented is fine. Sealed will also do the job although you will hear some distortion along some basslines. Also, to my knowledge, isn't the Type R RMS @ 400-500w? If you're gonna throw 300 watts its gonna sound like a cheap JBL or something. And some of your music will suffer lack of bass i.e. bachata, rock etc. Get the correct amount of watts to the sub to get a better sound.
