RE: 2332 miles on 48 gallons
Well, next time I take a longass trip, I'll mount a camera in my fuel tank like Top Gear did. And plus, my A4 is way better for the environment than a Prius is, so there.

EPA rated mileage always throws people off making people think thats what its only ever gonna get. Itotally buy49 MPG. heck my old FWD audi 100 5cyl 10valvewith a 3 speed auto got like around 29 or so around 70ish if i was driving really carefully.

30mpg is not pathetic. especially considering thats what 90% of this forum averages. i took out my spare, but i have two 12's. heavy exhaust and cat are out. replaced with a staight pipe but with 1 muffler. and i always put more air in my tires before a long trip. covering the body lines helped but there is still no way your getting that good of gas mileage. not even the 1.8l naturally aspirated a4's over in europe get that good of mileage. i've gotten an average of 36 while drafting around half the time, but thats it

No, what's stupid is people who say they can only manage to squeese 250-300 miles out of a tank in their A4's (search gas mileage on the A4 board) and then they can't believe it when someone can improve on the EPA rating of 461 miles to a tank. Getting 3 extra mpg is pathetic, 30 mpg on a 1.8 liter engine is a shame if it's a pure highway average, I used to get better than that in my Chevy Cavalier 2.2 with a slushbox (and that's before gas was expensive.) If you can only manage 30 mpg You might want to consider some tires with lower rolling resistance (harder tread,) changing your transmission fluid, making sure your engine is tuned up, and using a lower viscosity oil. Even mucking about town I still manage to get nearly 30 for an average, the only time I do worse than that is when I autocross (and yes, that still includes the occasional burst of retardedness when someone in a Civic thinks they can take me in the rain.) I bet you people think that the whole 'hypermiling' thing is a scam, too. I get a highway average of 25 mpg (highway, EPA says 19 unloaded) in my f*cking Ford E-150 van while hauling 1000 lbs of cargo because I know how drive efficiently.

Go look up the AeroCivic. It gets 100mpg on its stock engine and tranny. I'm sure if I were to streamline an A4, and cut its weight, I'd be able to do well over 70mpg. Its more about your driving style than the car, and apparently everyone here drives like K3mp...

This whole treads a gigantic joke.
CLX you could write me a 700 page book on why you believe you got this sort of mileage and i wouldn't believe you.
"I changed my fluids with royal purple" All your claims are small, and don't affect gas mileage like you're claiming they did. I don't understand why you continue trying to prove a point. Almost seems like you're trying to convince yourself.
Enjoy your 49mpg audi A4 1.8T, keep your next crazy dillusional trip to yourself.[&:]

Even though people have told you they set cruise control at 75 and get completely different results, that are realistic.
Some people might drive like kemp, but not on a road trip thousands of miles.[>:]
