RE: 2332 miles on 48 gallons
i drive 420 miles of flat highway (florida is about as flat as they come) probly 14 times a year. and i only average a little above 30mpg every time. i just dont see how it could jump to 49mpg unless you were drafting the whole time

30mpg is pathetic cosidering the epa rating is 27 highway you should easily be able to do 40+ and if you really try, 45+ I only stopped for fuel, my car didn't have anything in it other than me and my gear (back seat, spare, toolbox were all removed) and I kept my engine speed and travel speed very consistant. Except on downhills, because I coasted whenever possible. I didn't really draft much, but I did streamline the front of my car as much as possible (electrical tape around the seams in the body, hood, and headlights) and when I made my fuel stops I allowed one hour for rest and oil cooldown. Plus, I didn't run my a/c, kept the window closed, (just ran the fan in econ) ran my tires at 50 psi, and I have one thing I guarantee no one else has; royal purple tranny fluid. I changed all my fluids before my trip, cleaned my air filter, repaired my exhaust leak, balanced my tires and got a four-wheel alignment. So, my car is lighter than most other 1.8t quattros, and apparently I'm a smarter driver than everyone who claims that its impossible. Granted, that isn't including my rally driving and also my regular around town driving, because I only get about 12-15 mpg when I play

Practically flat highways being able to go 75mph + small 4cyl engine + turbo = insane mileage

Sorry. And a turbo does not help your mileage, at alllll.
Even if you managed to stay out of boost, and not accelerate once, i still don't think you pulled this off.
(And yes, I read your long write up.. you really tried too. If I happened it happened, but I'm not a believer)

You're absolutely wrong about a turbo not helping your engines efficiency. Recycling waste energy always helps, even when you're staying out of boost. You're just jealous because you drive a tank B6.
