TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE: Researchers at Oregon State University have found that xanthohumol may help inhibit prostate cancer, adding good news to a recent finding that lycopene, which is found in tomatoes, has a similar effect. So where does one find xanthohumol? In beer. Depending on your point of view, it's either good news or bad news that it takes a lot of beer -- and a lot of tomato sauce -- to get the desired anti-carcinogenic effects. "It's every man's dream to hear that beer and pizza can prevent cancer," said Dr. Richard Atkins of the National Prostate Cancer Coalition.
