RE: 100 Quotes from "Real" Christians
Not defending anyone, but, not ALL Christians believe as those depicted, above. ALL faiths and religions have their zealots and those horribly misinformed.
Now, *I'M* not a Christian, and *my* faith/belief-system is *mine." You are all entitled to believe as *you* chose to, as well. That is what is wonderful about my country, America. The fundamental belief in individual freedom. The freedom to choose and believe as *I* see fit.
Some of you read those words and seek to ridicule, yet most who would ridicule generally seem to respond with vile and hate when *their* tenents are held up for ridicule. Some of you know my beliefs but, honestly, that is irrelevant because my fundamental belief is that we are all entitled to our own opinions. Mine are no more right or wrong than yours. They are simply MINE.
I want to share something with all of you. Something I wrote on 12Sep01. As a reference, I was scheduled to work IN teh Pentagon, that day, on the Navy-side, A & B-ring... Listening to all the hatred and call-to-arms inspired me to begin writing poetry, again, after years of not putting a pen to paper. The reality was, my life and those of my IT-Team scheduled to join me that morning were all spared due to an administrative error. Had myaccess paperwork gone through, when it should have, none of you would have ever know of me or my existance. In full knowledge of that threat, one still basically in existance to this day...My words:
911
As I sit here on the morning after a global tragedy
I feel it’s time the world developed a brand new strategy
For man to raise his hand in anger and take another’s life.
Is no excuse, no reason, and no solution to all the global strife.
Hatred brings hatred as brother kills his brother-man.
Revenge and retaliation and the fates claim another man.
Self-righteous ways and death to those that differ
Because he’s my enemy is the explanation they offer
‘We fight to bring peace’ is what all good men claim.
The right to bring peace as we ALL fan the flame.
‘In the name of God’, both sides lay claim to justices’ due.
IN THE NAME OF GOD WHY CAN’T THE KILLING BE THROUGH?
I sit here and listen to the words of grief and confusion.
Blood must bring blood is it’s natural conclusion.
A nation now mourns lives ended too soon.
Mindless terror now reigns and no one’s immune.
For the many candles lit and for what they remind.
Candles will burn forever in our hearth, hearts, and minds
But all the worlds’ candles can’t bring understanding.
Nor all the worlds’ prayers stop us from disbanding.
Will none ever forgive our fathers sins and the hatred they spew?
Not Irish and English, not Arab and Jew.
Not Blacks and not Whites or the children they raise.
Can forget, it seems, wrongs’ earlier days.
A misunderstanding of man, a shattered brotherhood
We’re all ready to kill, it seems, because another would.
One eternal second was stretched into hours of terror.
And we’ll all suffer grief, all be the casket bearer.
We are all born the same, and are the same when we die.
Another life lost to the war for peace, lost again to the lie.
Peace will only ever be gained when respect is given.
To the infinite possibilities of the lives we are living.
The possibility to forgive trespasses in our daily lives.
And possibly we can stop the hatred, that hatred revives.
On some fictitious day, one thousand years from now,
Will man still murder man upon religious vows?
As the sun sets on this day emotions will still flare.
We’re all both right and wrong, but I believe we care.
With tears wiped away and condolences offered.
It ends in eternal peace for those who suffered.
For most of you those words will mean absoutely nothing. And that's OK. The words were written for ME. I chose to share them with you. For those that DO gettit, welcome to the global community. I hope you never have to display your ignorance or take a life in hatred. But, if you do, welcome to the club.
