Steam Explosion in NYC
A 24-inch underground steam pipe exploded Wednesday afternoon near the Chrysler building in New York City, killing one person and injuring 18 others.A plume of steam shot 77-stories into the air as muddy water and chunks of rubble spewed from the crater.New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the explosion had no ties to terrorism and was related to the age of the pipes in that area. Cold water being introduced to the hot pipe could have triggered the explosion.The pipe was installed in 1924. Officials are now testing the air for asbestos, since pipes of that age were wrapped in it.Although it was blamed on the old pipe, al Qaeda immediately claimed responsibility for it and is quoted as saying "we're in ur pipes, exploding ur steamz!"
When they were questioned about the surprisingly low casualty count, the spokesperson responded by saying "lol hax, if our n00bs would stop teamkilling in iraq, we could get something done!"
George Bush promised federal dissaster relief and insisted it wasnt just a move to boost his approval rating and get congress to ammend the constitution allowing him a third term. He explained the merit of staying the course, and that if the steam had just gone and done what it had done every day before, none of this would have happened.
When someone tried to tell him that it was because the steam had corroded the pipe a little bit each day, and that caused the explosion he said "we can't afford a timetable for this steam withdrawl, if congress keeps stalling on our funding, then the corrosion will just win!"
