question about cost for sevicing and brakes -NJ
hi all. i am a new member here and wanted to know if $100 for an oil change and $600 to replace brake pads is fair value for my 2004 a4. i don't have a mechanic and do not know about automotive maintenance so have been servicing my audi at a nearby dealership for the last few years. i am trying to save money in my budget where i can now and hope someone can offer some insight if this is a fair price. also, if anyone can recommend a good mechanic or service center in new jersey, i would really appreciate your help. thank you in advance.

That sounds like a reasonable price quoted from a dealership. But yes, that is a ripoff. My last oil change was $50 for full synthetic just for an example. That $600 quote for brakes was reason enough for me to learn how to change my own at 1/4th the cost.
you don't have to have 10 years mechanic's work to do your own brakes, but if you still feel that you'd rather have someone else do the job, I'd keep looking, and stay away from the dealership!

front pads (one of oem brands) around 65$ front rotors not more than 60$ each and labor is 65$ = 250$ if you want to go with oem quality.....

Great shop to go to.

If the rotors still have enough thickness on them to cut then theres no point in buying new ones. Pads are pretty cheap. Where in NJ are you, ill do the work for you and supply the parts for a fraction of the cost. PM me if your interested.

Thanks for your help so far. I am in Hoboken and have been looking for a place to service my Audi, but imagine it will take some more time. I appreciate everyone's input from my post. Should I avoid chain-stores like Autozone, PepBoys or Meineke? Thanks again for everyone's help.
