this is not a recommended mod for us.... a good fmic should cost that much, or a good turbo(new) should be at least that price or double, but..... don't do it

Don't do it!!!
I went that route (I call it Chinese ebay turbo). I bought just the turbo (nice and shiny!), which was $250 (minus $1.80 I got from the junkyard for the aluminum) down the drain.

Those turbos are USELESS.

Get a quality rebuilt turbo (they are virtually new, since all wear parts have been changed), or save up for a new T3/T4.

I DID go with an ebay intercooler kit ($300). It was not a perfect fit, but I got it to work ok (and vs. the $700-$1000 quoted for 'nice' FMIC kits out there, it was WELL worth it if you don't mind using the dremel on your plastic bumper and some 'fitting').

I suspect the manifold is not up to snuff either.
You don't need the gimmicks (or 'fillers' to make the deal look great) either.

Ebay front mounts are worthless if youre looking to make real power. You have no idea the difference in power youd run on a dyno back to back with an ebay fmic and a real one.

Looks like a pile of scrap as vtraudt stated. Id go for a real kit and not some shoddy bs that speed daddy is selling lolz.

I disagree with your statement. I bought a $300 Godspeed kit for my 1998 1.8T. I went with a 2.75 thickness (made it WAY harder; should have stuck with the 2.5), 20x6. Per recommendation of my professional turbo shop, I went with 2.0 piping (2.5 increases lag, and won't help at all at power levels under 350 hp).

When the kit arrived, the pro had to admit that it is a lot of value (he objected strongly against the kit, since he would have hooked me up to is manufacturer source for clamps, couplers, and tubes, plus his custom bender/welder at great price). The T clamps, silicone couplers alone would have cost a fortune. The tubes all had 'rolled' ends (a bead to secure the couplers better). Biggest problem for me was the 2.75 thickness, and the grinding I had to do to the bumper plastic to make room for the intercooler and piping.

Pressure drop and heat exchanger efficiency values may be - if any - marginally worse than others (and I challenge anybody to measure/document it).

But unless you source FROM THE MANUFACTURER, you likely will get similar quality from second hand 'custom kit' resellers, who charge $750 to over $1,000 for the same stuff.

If you are concerned about a percent in performance, add 10% to the heat exchanger area (in my case, I have a whopping 10% more heat exchanger than a 2.5 thick unit, and it will certainly outperform a 3x more expansive 2.5 thick unit!).

At least to me, the $500-$700 saved PAID FOR THE ENTIRE TURBO.

As of now (1 year), I NEVER had a leak, hose come off, or else (18.5 psi boost, consistent in 30 degree and 80 degree weather).

In short:
- I have good experience with low cost Godspeed FMIC intercooler kit; I would never spent a dime more
- I have VERY bad (totally unusable) experience with ebay "Chinese Turbo"
- There are some acceptable 'tier 2' turbo manufacturers if you want to save some money off the Garretts, KKK prices (even the one from Brazil - forgot the name - is not all bad from what I have been told).

You dont make anywhere near close to what I would consider real power. And the kit in question is for a t3/t04 (which is capable of real power)

Adding to that, my fmic is too small for my setup. When I can swing getting a new core, I will bet my life that my power levels jump by a very significant amount to the wheels. Now If i was to slap on your fmic, I would lose an insane amount of power. You're just wrong man, plain and simple.

Sorry Dad...

It just annoys me that he seems to be a smart guy, but is always challenging people who are more informed about the subject.
