Default Rusty Water?!

Hello everyone,

I have recently purchased a Silver 1982 GT5 S Auto. On my second journey in the car it over heated (went right up to 150oC) but didnt let the steam out untill I unscrewed the lid for the water. The water was brown! I filled her up with clean water untill all the brown water flushed out and then she didnt over heat at all.
Why is that? And do you think it will happen again?

Please help me..! Thanks!

you might have been lucky and not blown the head gasket but all you can do is keep and eye on it and put some antifreeze in there when your satisfied its ok

The brown was most likely rust from the car sitting for a long time with bad coolant. When you drove it the rust probably broke loose and blocked the thermostat. Then when you flushed it the rust was probably flushed free.

Thanks guys, I feel much better now. I thought it was the head gasket...
Im gonna take it to a garage and ask them to do a full cooling system flush and then put radweld in it etc.

Thanks again!

PS- How much should I expect to pay for a cooling system flush?
