Default Red Oil Presuure Light

Hi this is my first post have had my 2004 A4 1.8T Avant for 2 1/2 years now and has done around 71000 miles , it is regularly serviced and had it last oil filter change in april . On Wednesday last week the red oil pressure light came on , I have not driven the car since and I am waiting on someone picking the car up . Can anyone tell me the what can cause the light to come one and what damage may have happened.
Thanks Neil

My light came on two days after an oil change (10w30 synthetic w/ new filter), I put the car in neutral, and was coasting to the side of the road when the light went out. I hit the Maint. button, it went thru it's routine and came back with "OK". I finished driving home (about another 7 miles) with no problems.

The next day on my way home the light came on again, and before I could get to the breakdown lane it went off again (maint. check comes back "OK").

I took it to the garage, and they ran a diagnostic check and nothing abnormal was called out by the computer (no codes at all).

Today, it came on again and went off the same as the other two times (the previous ones were 2 weeks ago).

Any ideas?
