Rattling Sound from under A6 C5 2.8?
Hey there
So over the last week or so ive been hearing a strange rattling sound whenever i turn the car on, it sounds like its coming form directly beneath the car (Rattling cat maybe?). Its winter in washington so its from cold start ups every morning. The sound fluctuates with the rpms and if anything makes the exhaust sound rough when i rev it. The check engine light came on a few days after it started, so im gonna see if i cant get the codes its spitting tomorrow.
Also as i was pulling into the driveway tonight i heard a VERY weird whirring sound from what almost sounded like behind the front driver wheel. it was loudest when i was idling but seemed to go away/quiet down if i shifted out of drive/park into say neutral. From what ive heard this could be indicative of low power steering fluid, but again just wanted to double check.
So im left thinking its probably a bad/rattling cat and im in need of some more power steering fluid. Any help would be greatly appreciated! if you need any more details dont hesitate to ask

anyway, diagnosing stuff like that over the internet is quite difficult to do. For starters, check the power steering fluid level and get your codes read. It is very possible that the cold weather is contributory to both of your problems
good luck
