NEW GUY with a New A4 and a BIG Problem
Hey everyone. I just bought my first Audi. It's a 2000 A4 2.8 5 speed. I have had the car for 3 days now and it's AMAZING! My question to you all is, the check engine light came on on the way home from the dealer where I bought the car. I ran the codes and brought them down to a good friend of mine who has his own repair shop, he works on all german cars. He came to conclude that the codes indicated that I needed new Catalytic converters. My friend is not looking to make any money from me whatsoever. He priced both parts out at $2400. I am not all that worried becuase well, the Massachusettes lemon laws gaurantee that I am good for 60 days and the dealer where I purchased this car said he can have it done for under $500. can I get aftermarket cats, because I have had some trouble finding them online. Any help would be great. Should I post this somewhere else?

Hey fithhunter, welcome to the forum. This is just a welcome forum. You should post your specific questions in the A4 forum. Why are you researching fixing this yourself? Why not take it back to the dealer and let them sort it out. You should have turned around immediately and had them look at it.

Well I can't just turn around. Unfortunatley I live on an Island. The dealer is taking care of this problem for me. He's not an AUDI dealer. It's a small used car delaer. I found some Cat's for under $400 per side.

I have 95,000. Missed out . I have the original service records and I guess the light was on at 79,000 and the shitbag dealer just reset the code so they wouldn't have to pick up the cost. Talk about scumbag! Well, I got the cat for free from the sleezeball I bought the car from, so My buddy's gonna install it for me and charge the dealer I bought it from.
