Hi everyone. Finally decided to register. I have been lurking and siphoning off as much information as I possible could from you fine folks here but have come acroos the need for more info that I cannot find. I will post in the appropriate forum.

So far this sight has been a wealth of information and from the looks of things it will continue to be for a long time to come.

A little background....my son purchase a used 97 a-4 quattro 1.8t with a 5 speed and 89,000 miles (against my better judgement I must say). Now you get the screen name.
Nothing against the car, it is just that my son does not have the cash for repairs on this car nor the now how to do them.

In July the car started making a "diesel" rattle noise from the front of the engine. (his words) Stated the car still seemed to run o.k. and decided to drive it anyway.

You of course know the rest of the story. Freeway speeds + slipped timing belt = junk motor.

Guess who is footing the bills and doing the repairs? Aw, you guessed....lol.

Anyway, I will be hitting you guys up for some info on the boards. Thanks in advance for help you guys will be giving me.

I suppose if you have been lurking you already considered a part out? just saying, sounds like a lot of work and expense to go through for what most would write off as lost.
