Default help a newbie

I have an opportunity to buy a used 2001 a4 for a good price. The car is reading a code saying insufficient flow seconday air injector. I was told by dealer that this is an air pump that comes on for about 40 seconds when the car is cold to warm up the cats. How important is this part? Can you clear the code and forget about it? I plan to get an aftermarket turboback exhaust anyways and remove the cats. Thanks for the help!!

you can get plates to close it off....... depends on if your state has emissions and how they read them

New air pump is $350. Dealer wants 600 total installed. Gotta be a way around this. My state doe not do emissions check.
