Hello and help :)
My name is Matt and I'm from Atlanta, GA. I guess basically the only thing you need to know is why I'm here; I recently was involved in an auto-accident that totalled out my last car, a 2005 Kia Optima. The car was given to me as a present, which I had to pay off monthly. Insurance company wrote me my check for the depreciated value, and now it is time to get a new one.
I have wanted an A4 for quite a while now, however the reliability of the late 90s models have me a bit worried. I have found a few good A4s in my price range with excellent mileage, which seem to have been taken care of nicely. However, I am also looking at Acura CL class cars, which most people are telling me to choose over the A4 simply because of maintenance.
So, a little bored at work and thought I'd come ask people on an Audi forum. If I take care of my car regularly, maintain it, will I still see problems more frequently than say a Honda/Acura of the same year/mileage? I've been told that there have been some issues with older Audi turbo systems, and that can cost an arm and a leg.
I guess what it boils down to is that I want in on the Audi fun as well, but I don't want to be stuck with something that is going to cost a fortune to maintain, even after taking care of it. Any experiences and insight will help. Sorry for the long-winded intro

If you take care of your car regularly, maintain it and don't drive it like a jerk you won't have any problems. I have a 98.5 and haven't had any major issues. The main thing with these cars are doing a timing belt change around 75,000 miles. If you can do some minor mechanic work yourself, you will also save yourself a lot of money.
Search the forums for "common problems". I hope that helps.
