Hello!
Just bought on Friday a 2001 TT coupe 180hp/5spd FWD not a Quatro, its in very good condition already put 100 miles on it. Car had two owners, the couple I bought it from, the wife drove it but she is now pregnant and sold it.
I received no service records or owners manual, I don't have a radio code either which really sucks. I asked about the timing belt and they didn't know if the original owners changed it at the required mileage. The vehicle has 94k should I take it to the dealer and have the belt changed, is there a way to know if it was changed already?
Ok, I will be cruising in the forums and posting pictures soon.

Willkommen to the forums!
Lots of good information in the TT section of the forums. Good people over there too. unfortunately, without proper maintenance records, there is no way to be sure if the timing belt service has been performed. sometimes a visual inspection can indicate if there is some belt wear but it is not exactly a reliable indicator. The best thing to do, if at all in doubt, is have the service done but be prepared for "sticker shock" especially if you can't or won't DIY
if you have the owners manual, you can probably find the radio code listed there. sometimes it can be found on the "spec" plate in the trunk next to the spare tire well. occasionally it can also be found hand written on the top of the radio itself after the radio is pulled. if it isn't in any of those places, get the serial number off the top of the radio and call Audi. they will be able to give you the code for that radio.
good luck
have fun

There is a way you can check on the service records. Any good garage will have reported services to carfax/autocheck type companies. Try running a check with one of these services. The few $ spent on one of these checks may save you hundreds or more on unneeded servicing.

Not sure what the going rate is for a transverse 1.8T timing service but I would expect pricing at a shop would start in the $600 range (just a wild, but educated, guess). Keep in mind this is for parts, accessories, and labor. There is more to the timing service than just replacing the belt.
