Exclamation DEAL or NO DEAL!!??

Hi all,

Those of you gurus who just want to jump to the meaty stuff, go to paragraph 4.

I have been a silent observer now for a little while (quite literally). I have recently purchased an Audi A4 2001 multitouch 2.0 petrol saloon for a tidy sum of £1300 at an auction, not many where there so as I thought at the time, lady luck was on my side. She has 115000 miles and a regular service history. Mot expires in October, (the 5th to be precise). Tax is required but it certainly beats my old motor.. (will not disclose for any sum of money!)..

I am really pleased with her, and having read the standard of advice posted here (really well done all of you, the money you help people like me save is much appreciated!) it has inspired me to write this post, I hope you all read it and share your opinions or thoughts..

At first glance the body work is absolutely fine in a brilliant silver..
However by no means is this car faultless..

Firstly the r/c..
The car does not respond to either remotes, I have the complete set including master key etc.. I have replaced the battery on one of the remotes and performed both reset procedures.. 1. key in ignition(1 click), with other key press button when outside car, hold and turn in lock, leave then test... 2.hold button outside of car and turn in lock.. (manuals procedure)
The light flashes red when locked, when i unlock the car by the door with the key all other doors remain closed until i switch the ignition..

I cant seem to get it working.. by process of elimination it would appear there is something wrong with the receiver end.. I havent checked the fuses as yet but will do shortly..

Does anyone have any ideas? Audi suggested I would need new key fobs, but surely with both not working would suggest otherwise? I havent checked to see if the fob is giving a frequency as yet. Just incase any of you have had the same problem and can help with a simple fix? or perhaps I am not resetting properly?

Transmission issue..
When driving the car went into limp mode. (prnd flashing).. grrr... has only happened once, when i turned it off the car seemed to reset? which conflicts with other threads.. being that they usually need to be reset with vag.. The car seems to rev and not go anywhere, when I adjust the throttle position at certain points it takes off, I found myself at a junction, had to put it into (as i call) tronic mode to manually select the gear.. Like I said this happened once.. but I hear its a colstly fix and if these symptoms denote something savage then.. eyyy byy gum.. Your advice would really be appreciated..

But wait theres more!!
For all those of you who love a good predicament like Carol Vordermen does soduku then your in for a real treat with my get 2, have 2 more promotion!

Heater issue..
Yep, the dials work but nothing blows, no hot or cold, a/c is not operational. Is there a separate circuit and fuse for the heat system? so that you can use the controls on the dash even though nothing happens? or does this come hand in hand with the key fob? (very much a loose / difficult to determine niggle that with your help and advice I should be able to pin point)

Intermittent red oil warning..
I am pretty clued up with this, low pressure in the system is usually caused by carbon deposits in the oil filter, so a good idea to get it changed asap (3hours labor costs etc..) should i get a filter with a larger aperture? if so where from? It doesnt happen very often and hasnt today although I bought this on the 27th August!?

But wait... theres more....

When I rev the car at the tip end when its decelerating or reducing revs at the bottom front of the car theres a slight rattle, ive had something like this before and it was just a heat shield on the manifold.. is this pretty much the same or does a rattle from the bottom front signify something much worse?

Those of you who read this may feel sorry for me in buying a lemon however I hope that these faults aren't so bad.. the annoying niggles like the key fob perplex me somewhat..

If you guys need pictures or more info just ask and i will make it a priority to get them to you.. Any other tips would be very appreciated. I hope you can see from this thread that i appreciate all what those who possess a resolve can do and equally to those who just have suggestions or ideas..

Thank you for your time in reading this,

Kind regards,
Audisio

Sorry dude but you go wayyy too much stuff going on for any of us to be able to give you an "over the net" diagnosis. Best advice I can give you is to find and indy shop or a club or an enthusiast type (like us) that can give you some help in person. It could be that most of the problems are just minor stuff that can be easily repaired or replaced. Your biggest concern should be the transmission. If it is just low fluid, not a big deal. If the torque converter/transmission/TCM are shot you may be looking at a major repair bill.

thank you regardless, I will check the fluid levels. Although from what i have read it is the TCM. im sure that if it was just levels the previous owner would have fixed it? and your right, this thread is a little bit filling. I need to get this hooked up to a diagnosis maching stat! wish me luck anyway,

That said it appears you require a specialist tool to do that? I took it out again today to see, when cold it worked absolutely fine, I got it to 4000 revs and it stuttered a little, prnd didnt flash for a moment and then came on, Im worried if I give it to a garage they may see it as an ideal opportunity. Then again i could easily cross ref the error code on here if you guys dont mind. Its bank holiday so I may post next on tuesday. If anyone has any potential resolves or just wants to fire worst case scenarios at me then feel free. Cheers

also, you will get more responses if you move your inquiry to the A4 B5 forum

there is not nearly as much traffic here in the new member/welcome area
