buying TT, but in a jam, thoughts please
Hello, this may seem stupid but I feel creepy either way. O.k. bare with me and read this out, I just want some of your opinions on what u would do. I'm buying a '05 225hp tt coupe in chicaoland. I've been to my local Audi dealer (5 min.away) about 3 times now and am dealing with a nice easy going older sales guy, probably ready to retire soon. He's let me test drive the s4 and tt and has let me know that his manager (whom I've talked too) will work with me on price and if they don't have the tt they will get it. I know typical sales suave, but I do want to buy the car from them. PROBLEM IS they don't have the tt I want, but their sister store 30 min. away does. I let them know that I wanted to c the moro tt, they said they can get it but to go look at it first to make sure that I want it b4 they bring it. They asked that I keep a low profile and just try to eyeball it without letting the sales guy at the other dealer think that I'm sold on this particular tt. If they knew I wanted it obviously they wouldn't let go of it. So 2day I went into the other dealership and and just mentioned that I've been e-mailing the internet guy about different color tt's. I have to say this new sales guy was much more knowlegable and knew his stuff about the TT, he also used to drive a '02 ALMS. He had asked if I at least tried driving the 250hp just to compare the models b4 driving. We test drove the 250 model, he had alot of good points and knew his stuff. I asked to see the moro blue 225hp after that and made it seem like my colot choice is up in the air, as well as engine model. Now I like to think of myself as a fair, honest, and nice guy when I want to b. This sales guy is just more helpful, he has the car I want and I think there price would b rite by there sister store price on the discount of the car. Obviously I had planned on servicing the tt at the local dealer, and now would feel uncomfortable if I didn't buy from them. They probably will beat the other stores number, they already know what it is I'm sure, it's not like it's 2 different dealerships, but they do compete, and who wouldn't want to sell a car. So what do I do? Do I call this new guy and tell him I don't know about the color yet, even though he will probably c the moro blue goin out the door and find out it'd goin 30 min. south to the other dealership. Do I say it's just business to the older sales guy, and that he just doesn't have the car I want, remember I had planned on driving 5 min for service when needed. Some of u may think I'm being to sweet here, but lets face it, theres alot of competition for these sales guys, 7 Audi dealers within a 50-60 mile radious. So I don't know, between the TT and my smoldering looks I should get used to breaking hearts, lol JK, well not really. Any thoughts, I look forward to reading the forum, seems to b alot of Audi owners who know their stuff here.

Welcome to the forums im timmy. I say buy the TT from the dealer who has the one you want. Forget feelings, it's a matter of business. In a month that guy won't even know who you are. Do you know how many people just like you walk into the dealer on a daily basis? Even if you do bring that TT in for service at the original dealer i'm sure the show room isn't that close to the mechanics. Don't worry about it, go buy your car!

Thanks for your thoughts Jest, your probably rite. Does $2500 off sticker sound ok, it would b about 500 over invoice on the TT I want. My dad thinks they can do alot better, I am trading in my suv and the number is comin in at kelly bluebook. My dad was trying to say that even invoice is not necessarily what the dealer is buying the cars for, more like 15-18% under invoice. Should I make the local guy go at least invoice on the TT, remember he still has to get his hands on the car. I haven't talked numbers with the local guy yet, they just say they will work with me.

I'd say if you are 500 over invoice you are doing ok. Have you checked the invoice at http://www.cars.com. I'm not sure about audi, but a lot of car dealers get kickbacks at the end of the month from the manufacture depending on how many cars the sell.

Yeah, I have invoice numbers from edmunds and car.com. they r the same. On a '05 might c if these guys go 4 invoice. A few new '04s left in the area, numbers r even better well under invoice, just have to consider the resale down the road if it happens. It's time to play ball with these guys. I don't have to have the car riteaway, even though I want to. Someone is gonna have to spit numbers that r hard to refuse. I'll keep u guys posted.

stay patient....let them come to you...give them your number...and let them know that you think the price is still a bit out of reach, and ask them to work on it for you...

I agree w/nightrider. make 'em come to you. You can talk up the dealer with the car you want w/o giving away what might be a good deal with the local guy. Maybe hint that you found a "slightly" better deal, see how far they'll come down... And YES, they all get $$ from the manufacturer. They get money from the finance company they'll try to steer you to, too. Heck, they probly get money from their mothers for cuttin her grass, as far as that goes. I have a couple of friends that are car salesmen and, unless you're a VERY personal friend, it's all about the numbers. The money numbers. The number of people they talk to each day. The number of people they close any given week. Who's top sales for the week/month/year... Best way to suck 'em in is to make 'em think you're gonna go with their finance company. They'll work a deal under invlive if they think they're gonna get theirs on the back end... Then... BAM!!! Hit 'em with the check from your OWN financing on whatever low, low price they agreed to!!!

Thanks fella's, well it's been done!!! So check this story out. Friday I decide to call a Audi dealer about 50 min away, farthest from me in Chicagoland. I ask the sales guy if he has any '05 225hp on the lot, he said no but they have 2 new '04's left. They were the colors of preference so I told him maybe i'd get up his way saturday and check them out. So Friday I gave a call to my local Audi sales manager and ask if he could possibly get his hands on 1 of these new 'o4 black on black. THIS GET'S GOOD NOW! not sure if his story is total bull or just a little. He say's the scoop on those "new '04's" is that even though they have virtually no miles on them they will come up as used or at least 1 buyer on the carfax. He goes on to explain that Audi offered dealers a chance to sell a new '04 TT for alot less buying buying the TT and letting the dealer sell it still. He says that that being the case u will also b given a 2 year 100k extended w/it. He trys to say that if anything goes wrong that can't b fixed "a lemon" the dealer will not b able to buy the car back from me because it's already had more than 1 owner, even though it's never been titled til now. Remember he would like to sell me either his new '04 or a '05. He said if anything were wrong with his '04 he could buy it back. It seemed like he was trying to b honest with me, so I called him saturday. I told him it's worth me goin to c these other '04's and find out more details, and if I still need a car I'll come sit down with him later and talk numbers on a '05. So my dad and I head north, btw he drives a TT for almost 3.5 years now, and figure this guy's number on a new '04 at least has to match the local guy's number on his or better. THEIR SHE IS! black beauty all shined up in the showroom. This guy actually had 2 black's w/the same options. So dad is lookin at the 18" 9 spokes on a 180hp and says wouldn't u rather have thos rims and tires? The tires were Michelin sports, and the others were continentals w/18"7 spokes. I said yeah but the dealer is probably gonna give us a hard time "they usually do" if u want a swap. We test 1 of the black TT's and i'm lovin it already, even if the price is higher I'm wanting it rite. WE SIT DOWN 4 THE BIG GAME, and mention 2 the guy that we heard the car was punched earlier by Audi 4 certain reasons. As it turns out Audi asked all the dealers to punch remaining '04's and offer the 2yr/100k extended. Both his black 1's had under 100 miles, they were new and never titled. So the story on them pans out somewhat to the local guy's except maybe where he said "he was the only dealer in Chicago 2 not take Audi up on this, he didn't feel it was rite 4 the customer". Negotiations start and my dad just kinda of chimes in, he tells em 2200 lower on the price 500 more on the trade and swap the wheels for the 9 spokes. My jaw just about dropped cause I thought that was alot to ask, more than I was about to chime in at. So the sales manager comes in, btw both sales and manager are really nice guys and the store itself is a huge new audi dealership with cafe and top tier and the works, very impressive to say the least. The manager as usual is a little in the dark as to whats goin on, they were hoppin up there at this point being saturday. He asks us what we wanted and then does the huddle up 4 about 2-3 minutes where they keep u in suspence. I'm tellin my dad they will prob. come back 1400 higher and prob. the same 4 the trade-in. Manager says "we have this # and this # on the trade and swap the wheels no problem, will get that goin for u". WOW! MY DAD JUST HAMMERED THEM! he just saved me 2200 and got me a cooler set of wheels. I thought the # I would have settled 4 was good and acceptable. Brand new 225hp coupe black on black w/18"9 spokes 7600 off the sticker and approx. 4500 under invoice, plus the extra 500 for the trade. All in all a great experience at this particular Audi dealership, friendly, and r willing to make u happy. Don't know if I can mention the dealer here or the prices if any one is interested I guess pm me. And as for now as I type this just in love with my new TT. Sun is startin to shine and this black beauty is goin for a ride. As for my dad he said yesterday " just tell em what u really want, they can only say yes or no, u can either keep workin or walk." Very cool! Looks like we have 2 TT's to meet up at these events now. Thanks again for the suggestions here, I look forward to using the forum and hanging w/ a bunch of cool people here. Sun is startin 2 shine, time for the black beauty in the garage to go for a ride!!
