Default ANY ONE INTO SAND RAILS/BUGGYS

I want to put an audi engine into a rail buggy!

My original plan was a passat lump 1.8 n/a but it was a '97 reg and wiring seemed to be way to much hassle, given that that i would want to strip the loom back to the bare essentials, so i decided to go for something older. I've sourced an old audi, I think it's an 80 early nintys reg pretty sure actually and its carb not injection.

So, anyone interested in helpin me out? WANT TO KNOW IF IT'S WORTH CHANGIN THE DISTRIBUTER FOR SOMETHIG
STAND ALONE OR ELECTRIC?

I'd get an early-to-mid '80's lump out of an 80.(4 cylinder)
They came with carbs, and would be very easy to install.

hey sepp!
got the lump sorted, 2.0L early 90's, carbed and easy to wire. This site is great, getting lots of help.
Tell me though, do you know if switching the distributer for some kind of electronic unit is worth while?
Cos the distributer is missing and now would be the time to upgrade! Any other ways to get a few more
ponies whould be great!

cheers for the input!

Stock dist. on a 4 cyl is good for 300+ horsepower.
But I've heard of a maximum of 100 horsepower per cylinder.
Just uprate the HT leads. shoot for 8mm leads minimum.

cheers again sepp
any suggestions how to get close to 3/400 bhp?
I'm assuming that the leads only handle the power not increase it!
You're not in the states are you?
