I decided to buy a 99 A4 1.8T just last week. Silver, black leather interrior, 5 speed, 120K miles, got it for $6800. Timing belt was done at 60K, oil was changed frequently, and it doesn't smoke or anything. Most everything seems to be in good shape except for a couple scratches in the paint, a broken speedometer (odometer works correctly), and a slight odor from it being a light smokers car.

My speedometer reads the wrong speed and just kind of stays there, although my odometer is counting exactly correct. Is there a motor or somthing I can replace?

Anyone know of any good cleaning methods or products to get rid of the cigarette smell completely? I was going to shampoo the carpets, but can I do the same to the headliner without destoying it?

Welcome to the forums!

I've read a few post on here about using an ozone product to completely remove the smoke smell. It is what dealers use.

Found these links with search of "ozone"

You will probably find similar help for your other issues using the search function as well.
