Default About to buy my first A4....is it overpriced?

Hey all. I'm about to buy a 1999.5 A4 1.8t quattro and have a question. It has 103k miles on it and has an asking price of $9990. I checked it out today and it is a beautiful car. Outside is nearly perfect and inside has near perfect black leather. the car has eibach springs and 17" wheels with pirelli tires. The thing is, the timing belt has yet to be changed around 90k-100k. If it had been changed, I wouldnt mind paying the $9990 becuase the car is so beautiful. I called the Audi dealership and they said $1100 to go in and change timing belt AND water pump, which they claim they do as a package. My question is,

what SHOULD it cost me to replace the timing belt. should i even be worried about it?

and

what is a good asking price for this car? Is 9k too cheep?

thanks!!!

A few things factor into the price.

Where are you? Canada? USA? Does the dealership offer extended warranty? Have you had it mechanically inspected by a certified Audi/VW mech?

Yes, a t-belt replacement is a high mark ... and yes the water pump, tensioner, roller, etc are part of the 'suggested' replacement package. My personal opinion is that they're a mandatory package.

I bought my 99.5 A4 2.8 QT with 40K mi (65K km) for just over 14k and for my market, that's right on the money.

I live in Seattl Washington and I'm buying the car from a private party...it's a craigslist find. KBB said excelt condition should be 9800 and the NADA guide said 9400. I think the guy is trying to factor in too many of the options that the car has. He's only had it for a year and a half...he bought it at about 80k and it now has 103k.....and he hasn't changed the timing belt since he's had it..and doesn't know when it was last changed. I'm just weary of it becuase Im thinking that even if I can get it for 9k, I'll still have to do the tbelt change....any thoughts?

oh yeah, i just got the carfax report too. it looks pretty good as far as i can tell. he's the 3rd owner..though i think the second "ower" was a dealership....that's atleast what i can deduce from the report...and that the current owner told me he bought it from a Chevy dealership....

I'd definately try to talk him down a little bit because the timing belt change is mandatory.

seems highish. for reference: i bought my car(1998.5 1.8T Quattro 5Speed with K04 and milltek exhaust for $8300) which had just had the timing belt done 2k miles before at 60K
