2002 AUDI S6 & Accessory Belt Tensioner
Hi Everyone. Just sold my 2001 M5 because it had carbon build up issues.... and picked up a 2002 AUDI S6 4.2L. Love the car although i wish it was manual... I just replaced the belt tensioner and wanted to do a short diy on what I did. Driving home one day at 70 mph on the freeway, i loose power steering and battery light goes on. Managed to drive the car home for another 10 minutes... anyway. called up several repair shops and the audi dealership. Although the part is only $100ish the labor is $400+. Although I am new to audi i wanted to see if i could resolve the issue and save some cash... every where i looked it said that the front end had to me taken off.
Putting the car in "service position is not needed to replace just the tensioner. Instead what i did was take off the under tray and remove the AC line... This allowed me just enough clearance to get the tensioner off. It was a bitc% to take off... the 8mm Allen bolt was super hard to take off... took some pics of what i did and also added my TO DO list for the future... Car has 214k MILES right now and hoping to get another 100k out of this engine ( the guy i bought it from got it brand new and has a BOOK of service records from the dealership....I have not installed the new part yet but will do so soon and update this thread.... o yeah, just got a letter from audi about the fuel tank recall. Anyone else get that? Should i take care of it? I dont have any kind of fuel smell in the interior..
