2.7 or 3.0???? help!
so i am currently shopping for audi's and i have two cars that im looking at and i dont know which to go with.. first is a 2004 a6 2.7t with 65,000 miles, the other is a 2003 a4 3.0 with the same mileage, i am most concerned about the reliability, i know audi's have their expensive repairs here and there but my deciding factor is the longevity of the car and which would be cheaper to maintain, im thinking the a4 3.0 due to the fact that it isnt turbo charged because ive heard the turbos in the 2.7 tend to fail and the repair cost is enormous. i love the a6 but if the a4 is a better buy than thats what ill go with. HELP!!

Wilkommen to the forums!
Well...
if you are looking for cheap repair and maintenance and reliability you DO NOT want an Audi of any flavor. They are pretty heavy on the wallet, even for routine maintenance costs especially if you do not DIY.
Now to answer your question: To put it as simply as possible get the 2.7T. As long as it has been well maintained and they used fully synthetic oil on the changes you should not have turbo problems. yes if the turbos are bad you are looking at approximately $7K for replacement. The reason that I say the 2.7T over the 3.0 is that the 3.0 is a notoriously difficult motor to work on. The technicians hate it. If both vehicles have the same mileage, you are looking at the timing belt service coming up realllll soon. The 2.7T timing service will run you approximately $1K depending on where you take it and where you live. The 3.0 timing service will run you about $1.5K just because of the fact that it is a pain to work on.
the 2.7T offers a lot more options for performance upgrade. Not that you necessarily need to or you may not want to but it is better to have options than not. the 3.0...doesn't really have any options.
be sure to spend some time reading through the forums. the stickies will give you a lot of good information on some common problems and things you can look for when making your decision.
