1997 A4 2.8Q auto/so slow!
Hey I just bought my dads B5 A4 from him after a dude killed my 325i. I really wanted a manual tranny but my dad had this one in perfect shape and for a good price so now I own it. I was considering these wheels on my car along with painting the lowers, and maybe lowering it an inch??? But first I want tint like 20% because it get sooo hot and everyone stares at you like morons at stoplights. Any suggestions, corrections, or directions would be greatly apprieciated.
P.S. Is it just automatics that are slow?? Can manuals scorch there tires and wupp up on Stangs like my bimmer could (i miss that car...sigh) also what are the stock power rating for the 2.8??

RE: 1997 A4 2.8Q auto/so slow!
you've got a little research to do on the forums. search the archives and you'll find out loads of info on your car. the 96-97 2.8L has 172HP stock, and has no chip or other bolt-on mod to give you any extra HP, aside from a custom exhaust and an intake...other than that, yes, your car is going to be slow. the manual is slightly faster, but still slow. the 12V engine (in 98 they switched to the 30V 2.8) is known for it's reliability and smooth operation, not for it's power.
if you're going to lower it, you will need either coilovers or a complete shocks/springs combo. you can't just put in sport springs with stock shocks, or your shocks will be gone within a few weeks.
you can improve the look of your car by adding 99.5+ (post facelift) taillights and headlights.
if any of this stuff sounds confusing, just search the forums and you'll find all the info you need to know.
and welcome to the forums!
