I've have been a Audi owner since 1978 and have a older 1988 Audi 80, which has been a great performing car for 20 years, and a fun car to car to drive with good economy with average of about 32 MPG and peak of 40 MPG which seems good to me for 2.0L gas engine.
Iam hoping to find someone on the forum that has experience with the Motronic fuel injection system as relates to idle surging and stalling out. The car is old but don't want to give up on just because of an idle problem that I can't find a good troubleshooting data on. I've got the Bentley Audi repair manual and the Bosch Fuel Injection manual. However, I have chased my tail thru those books and spent much money, to no avail. Still having the original problem of idle surging from 900-1100 and if the ignition is cycled off & on the idle will just die as soon as the idle switch activates.
I have: sent the ecu out for testing (passed); changed fuel accumulator; fuel check valve; new plugs, wires and Rotor (overdue) check vacuum leaks many times; replaced injector seals and tested each injector; checked wiring to/from the ECU; checked temp sensor to match factory curve; compression even at about 170PSI; cleaned pressure regulator and fuel dist externally with carb spray; cleaned idle stabilizer valve and tested at 12VDC (full open) and 6 VDC (half open), (I can't hear it open properly with the ECU, but it open fine if the ECU line is grounded, seems like the ECU can't provde enough current); checked for corroded grounds, but not sure I found all of them. I have noticed that if the idle switch connector is off the idle is higher and smoother and doesn't die with no foot on the gas pedal. I have considered replacing many of the fuel injection devices, but have had the confidence to get the correct one and the cost even this far has out priced the market value of the car. The car is in good shape for a 1988 and I still like the car, but common sense would say dump it. That is a tough one for me.
If you have any ideas, that would be great.

Hello All,
My name is Josh, and I just bought my 2003 Audi A6 2.7t with about 78000 mi about a month ago. I drove it from my home in Milwaukee out here to South Carolina where I'm taking care of my dad, and the 800 mi drive went without a hitch. The ride was so pleasant that I think it did wonders for me and my GF's relationship.
I had been out here a couple of weeks when out of the blue the car started shaking and idling rough and the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (CEL) came on and started blinking. This worried the HELL out of me since I just left my job to come here to be with my dad. After coming on here, I found out that it was likely the very common problem of it being an ignition coil and that moreover the part had been recalled by Audi, so even though my car is no longer under warranty, the Audi Dealership fixed it for free. This probably saved me a ton of money because I was about to take it to this guy out here who seems to talk too much and not give you a straight answer about anything.
So far I love the Audi, but the main thing is that I need to get to know what I have on my hands, and the Audi forum seems to be the best place to start. Main concern now is getting that timing belt replaced, another tip I learned on here. Overall, I <3 Audi Forums!
Best wishes,
Josh

I have one A6
I think I am about to become an owner of a 2005 A6 2.4. Just given up on Mercedes. Loved them since a kid and since they changed from the old box type to the new frog eyes the electrics, injectors and amateur indie's have ruin mine. Was recommended to look for a forum before I go shopping. Any recommendation, words of wisdom, words of caution are welcome
I have it Argentina, the roads, are a dissaster, but, afer 4 years, and 70.000miles, I have no complains.
The diesel engine is acting up, but is do a bad cuality of the local diesel

Hi everyone. I'm Saso from The Netherlands. I am new here and wanted to introduce my ride to you all.
It's an Audi A4 Avant 20v. This is my 6th Audi and before this one I have had an Audi Coupe 2.3 5 cylinder which can also be seen in my photoalbum. Pictures of my A4 Avant are also in there.
Plans for the A4 are to lower it with a kit from Koni or KW and to make it bit faster through a ECU chip.
Bye!
