Audi Advance Key copy in DMV area
Has anyone tried to get their key copied in this area? This is an Audi Advance Key for B8 A4. I've heard different prices and different stories about key copy from the dealer as in some dealers reject you when you bring your own empty key and ask for copy/program even if you insist on paying for the labor.
I don't want to buy the OEM brand new key from the dealer which is so expensive. I can find uncut emergency key (top portion) and the used remote for much cheaper price. I just need to get it cut and programmed.
Can this be done via VAGCOM or do I have to go to the dealer?

If you have a working key, I believe you can program a new one. There's a thread, buried I am sure, about how to go about doing this. Baldino's used to be able to do the copying. Not sure if they still do it or not. They will NOT program it for you, however.
About a decade ago I had them cut a new key, for me, and I did the programming myself from the info in that thread I mentioned. Find the thread and try to program the key-fob, first, before you drop extra coin on cutting. Baldono's ain't exactly cheap. Cheaper than the dealers, anyway.
