Cranks no start

Cranks no start
I have a A4 03 that stopped running on the side o the road.
I put the Bosch code scanner an I get a communication errors that states lost communication with the computer... I hear it trying to connect several times then errors out. The car will crank but does not fire. I hear the fuel pump working
I would be grateful for any ideas
