Won't come out of park because of brakes...
I have to move an A6 I am parting out, but the transmission won't go into gear. It doesn't register that the brake pedal is pressed, so it won't allow me to shift into drive. Is there a way around this?
Its a 2001 4.2/Tiptronic. The tail light housings, and much of the interior is out so I am not sure what part caused the change because it was fine a few weeks ago. I was wondering if pulling the TCU would do it, or if someone knew where the solenoid was?
Thanks!

Check down around teh actual brake pedal. There should be a plunger-type switch, either above or below the lever. That should be where the fault is. If teh switch is faulty, or the circuit has otherwise been shorted, it can't signal that the brake pedal is being pushed.
FWIW, this is based on general knowledge of how brake systems tell the brake lights to come on, not any specific info about your A6.
