Very loud rear end noise--don't think its a bearing
Ok so any advice on this would be great...
'96 2.8q, 130k.
My check engine light came on a before i was supposed to drive 500 miles to Miami and back. So i took it to the dealer--they didnt plug in the vag com because there was no time--and said it was most likely a vacum leak (I saw my lines and they were old and decrepid).
So i drove down fine. On the way up my check engine light decided to turn off?? About 300 miles later i exited the highway and first thought my RPM's weren't dropping b/c there was such a loud sound comming from the rear end of my car.
It's very loud and increases with speed.
I just had my rear wheel bearing replaced and it sounds like it may be comming from the same area--but i cant be sure.
Could this be my rear diff?? or a bad tranny?? I hope it's just the bearing but i dont want to drop $150 just to get this looked at
Thanks guys

You shouldn't be paying more than $40 to have the
mechanic take a short drive. Get the codes read at AutoZone.
