Default Transmission fulid!!

I need to fill the transmission fluid, I know that it requires the tool VAG 1924 but i dont want to spend as much as they want for it. Is there any alternative to filling it up? Are there two different filling compartments, someone told me there are two different compartments to fill and each takes a different fluid, any truth to this? I need help asap so if anyone has experience witht this please PM me. Should I just buy the VAG 1924 or bring it in to a shop? Its an 1996 A4 2.8 AT

the automatic dosent need the special bit for the drain plug, impretty sure the AT is just a 17mm bolt on both, easier if you just look underneath. the specail tool is for the MT.

I have had some experience with ATF on a VW Golf and was looking into it for my old A4.

Here is a link from Blauparts:http://www.blauparts.com/audi/audi_f...onfluidvagtool

they include a pump in the kit that replaces the VAG 1924.

Filling the fluid to the proper level requires the fluid to be in the appropriate temperature range which is most easily checked with VAG-COM. The temperature is critical and the fluid should not be changed unless you can accurately measure it.

The kit is like $100 bucks and you can expect to pay $400 to a mechanic. You could save a few bucks by buying the kit and giving it to the mechanic, if its ok with them.

let me say this first.... i am a NOOB....!

second...i followed the link for the kit, and it looks to me like its just a pump and small piece of hose along with the fluid, gasket and filter? is that all it is?
if it is, would it be any cheaper to just pick up the parts at your local FLAPS?
