tools for wheel hub
ok so my front right wheel bearing is bad and upon doing research I found that I need a special tool to get the bolts out that hold in the hub assembly. I just need to know what size triple square bit I need to do the job. I have been looking for the answer for hours now with no luck. its on an 09 a4 Quattro. thanks in advance

I think it's a 12mm triple square.
DIY: Front wheel bearing replacement
Be prepared to beat that stupid thing out of the spot where it lives. It will be just about welded to the aluminum spindle assembly because of corrosion between the aluminum and steel materials. It took me longer to get them out than any part of the project. When you DO get it out, thoroughly clean all the corrosion with a wire brush and slather the new wheel bearing assembly with anti-seize compound where ever it touches the aluminum. That way the next PDB that has to change them will have an easier task. And.. That PDB might be you. LOL

I have a big puller with a slide hammer on the handle that was acquired specifically for pulling the hubs on a buddies cummins that hadn't been changed in 160k miles so getting it out shouldn't be an issue. I just didn't want to go buy a set of these triple square bits and have them be the wrong size so I appreciate the feed back.

You get get a set of them at Advance Auto that range from 8mm to 14mm (I think it's 8,10,12,and 14mm) for a decent price. It's better to have them than not. I think the CV bolts on the flange side are 10mm if you decide to remove the shafts to make it easier. The is just enough room (after removing the heat shields from around the inner CV's) to maneuver them out without having to disconnect the lower arms.
