Stock radio help!
Ok, I hate to do this but I really couldn't find the answer I was looking for. First of all, I love my 2001 Audi A6 2.7t. Great car. However, my stock Bose is driving me nuts. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to replace it. I want to FIX it. I know this will shock most of you out there, but coming from the "12 easy steps to get out of ricerville" I want the elegance of the stock system. It sounds good to me.
Anyway, here's the problem. The radio works fine. The in-dash cd player gives CD ERR1. Yes I know how to put a disc in the player! I can hear it try to spin up, but it just won't. I've tried a CD-Cleaner disc. Didn't work either. I want to take it apart and see if anything is obviously wrong, but wondered if anyone out there has tried this. The other problem is the Audi CD-Changer in the trunk works fine, but only out of the right speakers. I pulled the head unit out tonight and the left speakers tried to work, so I'm guessing a bad connection or broken wire.
So there's my problems and the answer I'm looking for is advise on manualy cleaning the cd player and help on the wire problem. I know I'll get ripped with wanting to stay stock, but that's my choice for now. So, let the fun begin!

RE: Stock radio help!
Any idea how much a replacement head unit is? If I replace it is there a Satelite or Navigation version I can replace it with or should I just go completely aftermarket? Can I use the 6-disc changer with aftermarket if I find a 8-pin head unit?

RE: Stock radio help!
Ok. I pulled out the head unit the other night and messed with it a little. If you squeeze the headunit or put pressure on the bottom, everything works just fine, so I'm assuming a grounding issue. I'll pull it all apart tonight and see what I can find. Also, I read a tutorial on this site about adding a sub and amp, but wondered, has anyone tried to use the "bose amp and sub" stuff in the a6 trunk?

RE: Stock radio help!
Ok. I took the whole Head Unit apart! What a lot of screws! Anyway, didn't see anything obviously wrong in there, but the CD-Player still doesn't work. I did find the problem with the CD-Changer not working out of the left speakers and fixed that. Sounds great now! I love the hidden EQ built into that thing. Anyway, one of these days I'll replace the HU with another stock one but not now unless someone wants to sell theirs for around $100. Thanks guys for the help.

RE: Stock radio help!
Ok...Stupid question...i have the same year and model...basically my ashtray is broken and i have to take the deck out from what the service manual says...i got the removal tools but i am having a hard time getting them to stay...also, it says in the book that i have to have a security code to take out the deck...is that true? Basically what i am asking is what do i exactly need to do to take the deck out...thanks for any help you can give me.
