Shaking @ 60mph.
So... yet another problem with my recently purchased Audi. I'll never purchase from a Private Party again! I love this car, but now it's shaking right when I hit 60mph right on the spot. Could it be ice buildup or what? I'm so frustrated!!! Any help would be awesome.

if theres snow out i gaurentee that you got snow inbetween the spokes that throwing hte car off balance, either poke or with warm water clean your wheels, hell just get it washed and make sure they clean the wheels. thats all i can think of unless you got more info as to if anything loose or making noise.

The two posters above are right on. I'd take both front wheels off, look for missing weights, clean them, put them back on. IF the vibration comes back, go to a good tire dealer and have both properly balanced. IF they are balanced and still shake, inspect for loose/slipping belts or tread.

are they stock wheels? If they are not, they may not have used potentially needed spacers. This can cause some minor vibration as well. Most likely the balance, given it's at a certain speed. This is common.

I sincerely do appreciate all of your comments and help. I work at a Oil Change/Car Wash and I waited those few days (the days the car was shaking) which were also coincidentally the coldest of the year and then I got my car washed. Shaking went away. So, as I suspected and as many of you pointed out, I had ice in the wheels/between the wheels. So yeah... Thanks!

It cost me $1,000 to replace the steering rack. I used
a remanufactured one from

My buddy has a 1.8t that was totalled. The rack and pinion is still good on the passenger side. Would that fit the 2.8L of a half year younger? (Mine's a 98.5, his is a 99) I'm assuming that the body is the same and the only thing different is the motor, transmission and clutch? (Remember, I've been into trucks for 5 years, so I'm not sure what the difference is. On Euro AWDs, especially.)
