RPM's Sticking

RPM's Sticking
I posted this in the TT forums but just wanted some more opinions. I'll be taking the car to the shop next week probably to get my timing belt replaced and I'll have them take a look at this but I'd like some ideas first in case the shop tries screwing me.
"Quick question guys. Is it normal for the RPM's to not drop immediately in turbo cars when shifting from 1-2 and 2-3. When I shift, the rpm's will go up slightly(200-300rpm's) and then drop half a second later or so. This doesn't seem to happen when shifting from 3-4 and 4-5. Especially not when shifting from 4 to 5. I thought maybe the turbo could be spooling down but my friends Legacy GT doesn't do this.
I'm sure this doesn't make much sense. I'm no mechanic though and this is as best of a description as I can give.
Thanks for all your help."

RE: RPM's Sticking
No it should not do that.
Are there any codes? I'm thinking the DV isn't working properly.
If it doesn't bleed off the boost, it will hold revs. But also have some
turbo lag.
The other thing that comes to mind is the throttle body, not going
back to idle position when you let off the gas.

RE: RPM's Sticking
With the car out of gear and running press and hold the rpm at 2000 rpm for 3-5 seconds, then let off the gas quickly and see if it seems to hang onto that rpm, or instantly go down. If it holds onto that rpm (2000) for a little bit the throttle body is sticking open and can be caused by a dirty throttle body or dirty linkage for the throttle body or cruise control unit (I am not familiar with TT's or the drive by wire setup in them but these are the places where I would start)
