Ive never ran my car out of gas cause I was always afraid that the fuel pump might get clogged or suck up dirt or what evers in the bottom of the gas? so maybe your fuel pump is clogged or broke?

Just try it again. That could have just been where there was air in the lines from having no gas. You should be able to just start it up a couple times (worst case, press the gas in a bit) and it will fill the lines back up with fuel. Chances are nothing else is the matter. Anybody else want to chime in?

I agree with "audianthony". You probably clogged the fuel pump. You can try to bang on the bottom of the fuel tank to shake anything loose. This actually worked for me on a 2001 Chevy Cavalier, I couldnt believe it worked. Let us know what you find out. Good Luck.

Everyone seems to ignore the obvious so I figure I'll toss in my two cents. Check your air filter first, if its clogged your engine cant breathe, then check the spark plugs, if the engine has idled so low in the rpms that it stalls out this might be a contributing factor.
I always check the simple stuff before moving on to what seems to be the direct cause personally. Half the time it can save you a lot of money.

I dis agree with the above pressing the gas on a fuel injected car only cuts injector pulse width and would make it harder to start hiting the bottem of the tank helps free a stuck pump moter that is on its last leg turn the key on and listen for the pump it should run for a few sec and then stop if it does repeat this step 5 times and then crank the engine w/o pressing the gas if the pump makes a load hum banging on the tank will work if no noise then yes a pump may be the cause.
