I'm looking into buyin a vag-com so i can start some diagnostic work on my check engine light

It says it comes with the cable and the software, it connects to the car and then to my laptop which would work out, the software...is that the actual vag-com software? or do i have to buy the other software itself.

I've done some more research and it looks like this is just the adapter cable that connects the car to the laptop....i have to buy the ross-tech program for 99$? Or should i go down a different maybe cheaper road?

Has any1 used the vag-com cracked torrent instead of buying it from ross tech?

i havent done anything yet...i want to wait for some input from some1 who knows wat they are doing.

 

I dont believe that those cables will be able to perform every function that a vagcom can do. These to me look equvilant to the ones they sell on ebay for 20 bucks. They can clear codes and do some changes hear and there but can do logs and all the good stuff the real VAG can do. Juss myy two cents.

 

can some1 point me to a legit vag-com cable? hopefully 1 where i dont have to buy the 99$ software? I just want to know which ones you guys use and your happy with

 

I will sell you mine for $150 if interested, will throw in the Bentley A6/S6 repair manual for another $30. Bought the whole set from Ross-Tech for $350 last year but sold the car and don't need it.
Model is KII-USB, works with most VAG cars up to 2004, license is built in to the interface/plug so you just download the free vag-com software from the Ross-Tech site.
